The " Academic Mindset" is a project that I really like to write about. I can know more about the mindsets then I adjust myself in the positive way. During the process, it's hard to working by myself about a topic that I barely know about. I do think that working with other people is a good approach to do this project that I should have done. The hardest part in the project is to provide at least one counter-argument and rebuttal between Carol Dweck’s argument and Alfie Kohn’s argument. While both of those has a solid thesis and their own logics. I took me quite bit but i told myself to keep concentrated and follow the directions that i was given .After a period of time doing research, I finally find a counter-argument toward Alfie Kohn. I wrote it the day right after I understood entire the topic. I can't write about somethings when I don't have a complete understanding. I wrote it in my room which has a the materials that I need during the process such as: food, quiet. I think it's the best way for me to approach to access a writing process .I also did research about it that also help me to know more about the mindsets. I choose to write about my topic because it's a institution of my researches and my opinions. It has all the needed ideas. For the next revision of the academic mindset's project, I will do more research and make my thesis to be more stronger. I also will do check my grammar with appropriate word that could make my write become more professional in the reader's eyes. I will work with another the people that could give me more advices about the ideas and process to approach the ideas more easily .

Teaching Adolescents to Become Learners [...] (Chicago University) shows four types of academic mindset. They are belonging, growth mindset, self-efficacy, relevance/purpose. I find my mindset is relevance/purpose as this work has value for me. This mindset is relevant to a subject matter a person is studying is interesting and holds value. Value can be variously defined as the importance of doing well on a task (attainment value), gaining enjoyment by doing task (intrinsic value), or serving a useful purpose or meeting an end that is important by completing a task (utility value). I decided to go to college to get a higher education which can provide me a legit knowledge and a good job to deal with life later on which is utility value as I mentioned. I also want to enjoy the process that I know I will definitely improve at the end of the day. I am not scare even I make a mistake during the progress because I can learn from my mistake. I see that ass the intrinsic value. I think the attainment value that can be exampled from every students at college. Receiving good scores or doing well on a task are the result of the time that I learn, make mistakes and redo again and again. The award proves that I make progress and I’m going to be better. All of those things addresses that I have the relevance/purpose mind set. It’s help me to know more about myself and retrain my goals at DCCC specifically. My goals in the college to do my best so I can have a better future and to become a admired person and ethier the progress or the result I received at DCCC would help me to accomplish my goal and I enjoy it. Every people has different academic mindset but that’s all for their good and we should respect them.
In Teacher, Parents Often Misuse Growth Mindset Research, Carol Dweck Says professor Carol Dweck mentions about three conceptions that educators are misunderstand or misapply about the growth-mindset's concepts. The first one is prasing effort alone. Praising effort alone is useless when the child is getting everything wrong and not making progress, instead she advises teachers and parents to praise a child's process and strategies. Next, telling kid to try harder is similar to hollow praises of effort. Instead of nagging the student, teacher should sit down and together find out what she or he hasn't done right. The last one is repeating mindset jargon. Dweck says that many teachers have to change how they teach, offering more critical feedback and giving students opportunities to revise their work. In The Perils of "Growth Mindset Education" [...] by Alfie Kohn, she addresses about the educational system these days and its concerns. He mentions about how the current system approach the system which should be identified more than trying to fix student's perceiving. She also points out that protecting kids from failures is more better than good scores. They should be feel good about themselves anyway. People in a fixed mindset believe they either are or aren’t good at something, based on their inherent nature, because it’s just who they are. People in a growth mindset believe anyone can be good at anything, because their abilities are entirely due to their actions. I think I'm the person who has a mixture between fixed mindset and growth mindset. I always want to hide my flaws so i don't get judged. And as a international student, I minimum myself to the environment that I'm not familiar to so I just get stick to what I know to keep my confidence. I'm also think that people in a growth mindset believe anyone can be good at anything, because your abilities are entirely due to your actions. So I think I have quite a bit two of those. |
